The CNY Fiber Arts Festival was proud to offer a variety of new and exciting classes in 2022, and we have recruited some excellent teachers for 2023.

SATURDAY, JUNE 10

Begin to Spin! – 10:30 am to 1 pm      Marcia Weinert

Learn to make your very own, unique handspun yarn on a spinning wheel!  We’ll play with several types of prepared wool while we discuss wheel maintenance, drafting, treadling, plying, and finishing techniques to make a balanced yarn.  As time permits, we’ll touch on other fiber preparations.  No previous experience required.  Warning:  Spinning can be addictive!

Please bring any treadle-driven spinning wheel in good working condition or plan on renting a class loaner for $10.  

THIS CLASS is NOW FULL.  Instructor will provide handouts, all fiber, and loaner wheels as needed. 

Class fee: $55 plus $10 materials fee for fiber

Due to popular demand, the 10:30 class in beginning spinning will be offered again in the afternoon!  Please see class description above.

SUNDAY, JUNE 11

Intro to the Drop Spindle    10:30 to 11:30        Kim Parkinson

A fun and easy introduction to the world of spinning. It's easy to learn to make your own custom spun yarn. Students will receive their own spindle to take home, instructions, and fiber to practice with.

Open to up to 10 students of any age.

Intro to Crochet     1:00 - 2:30      Jennifer Farley

Always been intimidated by those pointy knitting needles, but wanted to learn some yarn craft?  Come join me to learn about The Other Yarn Craft... Crochet! You only need one hook and a bit of yarn and then let the fun begin!  We will learn a couple of basic stitches and then we'll start your very first crochet project together. Students don't need to bring anything other than the passion to learn! 

Open to up to 10 students, age 15 and above. 

Class fee: $45, which includes your first crochet hook and yarn
