The 2018 festival, held on June 9th and 10th, was a resounding success. Three guest artists gave lectures on different aspects of dyeing fiber, and workshops on indigo dyeing and spinning on a drop spindle were presented. Hundreds of visitors to the Children's Tent played with lambs and kids, watched puppet shows with handmade felted puppets, and made fiber-based crafts to take home. A shearer provided demonstrations twice a day and individual vendors offered demonstrations of weaving, spinning, basket-making, and rug-braiding. More than 100 raw fleeces from local sheep, goats, and alpacas were available in the Fleece Sale. A spinning guild helped visitors to the Wheel Corral try spinning on various spinning wheel models.
Vendors and exhibitors and fiber animals filled 114 booths. Products included handspun and hand-dyed yarn, roving, hand-dyed fabrics, and finished products ranging from decorative art works to unique articles of clothing. Handmade wooden fiber tools, pottery, antique tools, and related farm products were also available. Music and food and perfect weather completed the weekend.
Each year, CNY Fiber festival focuses on one aspect of the fiber arts. In 2019, the focus will be on knitting. As our plans progress, information on our 2019 guest speakers will be found here.
Thank you all - the festival committee members, our visitors, our volunteers, and our many talented vendors, speakers, and instructors.
