Plans for the 2019 CNY Fiber Arts Festival, which will focus on knitting, are taking shape. Three guest artists have been engaged to deliver lectures and demonstrations on aspects of knitting, and we are soliciting ideas for workshops on knitting and other topics related to fiber arts and fiber animals. Our volunteers in the Children's Tent are working on plans to teach "finger-knitting" to children (and adults), and a new display of art work by children will be featured. Jim Baldwin has agreed to return with his shearing demonstrations, and Jack Cymerman's herding dogs will show visitors how to control a flock of sheep. Individual vendors will offer demonstrations of weaving and spinning, and sheep, alpacas, goats, rabbits, and llamas will be on display. Visitors will be able to select from a wide variety of raw fleeces at the Fleece Sale, and a local spinning guild will help visitors to the Wheel Corral try spinning on various spinning wheel models.
Most of our 110 booths have already been claimed by vendors, exhibitors, and fiber animals. Products for sale will include handspun and hand-dyed yarn, roving, hand-dyed fabrics, and finished products ranging from decorative art works to unique articles of clothing. Handmade wooden fiber tools, pottery, antique tools, and related farm products will also be available.
At the festival, we will be awarding the first annual Viv Fulton Memorial Award for the finest example of a handwoven product from natural fibers. All entrants will be on display during the weekend. Information on the competition can be found here.
Whether you are a fiber artist looking for raw materials, camaraderie, and inspiration, or someone who appreciates traditional crafts and artistry and a family-friendly event, please make plans to join us on June 8th and 9th.
